Tatawa Besar Dive Site - Komodo

Tatawa Besar. Now this is a drift dive we always look forward to, a proper Komodo classic. We often drop in early, before the breeze picks up, to really appreciate the sheer scale of the hard coral gardens here. You’re talking about fields of staghorn and brain coral that stretch on and on, punctuated by vibrant patches of cauliflower and cactus corals. It’s less about the big pelagics and more about the healthy reef ecosystem – clouds of fusiliers, the flash of blue-lined surgeonfish, and if you look closely, those tiny bicolor blennies peeking out. The current here can really motor, so it's a site for confident divers who enjoy a fast-paced ride over a healthy, sloping reef. We love it for the sheer joy of flying past so much unspoiled coral. Keep an eye out for those massive fluted clams, their mantles a startling blue, often nestled right in the middle of a stony coral bommie.
