Tatawa Kecil dive site - Komodo

Tatawa Kecil is where we go when we’re feeling ambitious. It's not for the faint of heart, or for someone who skipped their coffee, because the currents here can really rip. But if you’re up for a bit of a ride, the rewards are immense. We often find ourselves just hanging onto a bit of dead coral, watching schools of fusiliers and snappers stream past so thick they almost block out the light. The reef itself is a kaleidoscope of hard corals – we've seen everything from massive stony corals and delicate birdsnest varieties to the intricate patterns of Chinese lettuce coral. It feels like swimming through a meticulously curated garden, only wilder. Keep an eye out for the yellowspotted dottybacks darting among the branches, and if you’re lucky, a turtle might cruise by, oblivious to the mayhem. Our favourite way to dive it is to drop in at slack tide, or just after, and let the current carry you along the wall. It’s an exhilarating drift that leaves you buzzing, and often, quite hungry for lunch.
