Bomba Atoll, off Sulawesi, gives you a solid feel for a healthy Indo-Pacific reef. We find the hard coral coverage impressive, particularly the sheer expanse of table and staghorn corals. It's a busy place, with schools of blackstriped cardinalfish darting between the branches and pink anemonefish hosting in the papyrus coral. You’ll also spot the tiny yellow-red pygmygobies if you take your time. This spot is great for divers who appreciate seeing a thriving, mature coral ecosystem without needing the drama of big pelagics.
