HMS Subtle - Sumatra

The HMHS Dover Castle isn't just a hunk of metal on the seabed, it’s a tangible piece of history, and for us, that’s what makes it a standout dive in Tabarka. This old hospital ship, torpedoed in 1917, now rests upright and largely intact, providing a truly atmospheric dive. As you descend, the sheer size of her emerges from the blue, a ghostly silhouette. We love exploring the open holds, where light filters in, illuminating schools of sardines darting through the structure. It’s not a vibrant coral garden, but the way the Mediterranean has claimed the wreck, covering it in sponges and hydroids, creating shelter for conger eels and scorpionfish, is fascinating. Keep an eye out for loggerhead turtles; they're regular visitors. This dive suits wreck enthusiasts and those who appreciate the quiet solemnity of a historical site.
