The team at Seaventures Dive Rig are, in our opinion, one of the most unique operations in Southeast Asia. We love their whole setup. Imagine a repurposed oil rig, now a dedicated dive platform, rising out of the Celebes Sea. It’s an unusual place to sleep, sure, but the sheer convenience for diving Mabul and Kapalai is hard to beat. You’re literally steps away from the water, no long boat rides needed for your first dive of the day. We’ve had some cracking dives right under the rig itself, spotting frogfish, ghost pipefish, and even robust ghost pipefish tucked into the pilings. The Mabul house reef is right there, and we always suggest a night dive from the rig; the critter action is incredible as the reef wakes up after dark. They're a 5-Star PADI IDC Resort, so if you're thinking of going pro, or just getting your Open Water, the setup is excellent for focused training. Plus, for those lucky enough to secure a Sipadan permit, it’s a quick boat hop away, and they’ll sort all the logistics for you. It’s not for everyone – don’t expect white sand beaches – but if you’re here purely to dive, it’s a brilliant, no-fuss base.
