The team at Uncle Chang's Sipadan Mabul Dive Lodge are Mabul legends, pure and simple. We’ve stayed here a few times over the years, and it’s always a good laugh. You’re not coming here for luxury, let’s be clear. This is for the divers who want to be right on the water, literally. Think rustic over-water bungalows, the sound of the ocean under your floorboards, and the smell of salt in the air every morning. They specialise in getting you wet, often multiple times a day, with a real focus on Mabul’s macro wonders and, if you’re lucky enough to secure a permit, daily trips to Sipadan. Our favourite part? The sheer convenience. You wake up, grab a coffee, and hop straight onto the boat right there at the lodge. We'd suggest booking well in advance, especially if you’re aiming for those coveted Sipadan permits. Visibility around Mabul can be a bit variable, sometimes dropping to 10-15m, but that just means you have to look harder for the frogfish and mandarinfish. Keep an eye out for the resident green turtles around the jetty at dusk. They’re practically family.
