HARAPANKU TIGA - Mabul & Kapalai

Harapanku Tiga isn't your average Mabul wreck dive. This isn't a purpose-sunk artificial reef; it’s a proper piece of history, an old motor vessel that caught fire and sank back in '77 on a passage from Surabaya. At just 10 metres, it’s a brilliant rummage site, completely accessible and surprisingly intact for its age. We love nosing around the engine room, peering into the shadowy holds where you can still feel the ghost of its past life. The wreck itself has become home to some chunky residents. We've seen moray eels peeking out from every crevice, big groupers lurking in the deeper sections, and plenty of lionfish fanning their fins from the deck plates. Keep an eye out for the schooling fusiliers that often swirl around the mast structure, sometimes so thick they turn the ambient light green. It’s a photographer’s playground, especially on a bright morning when the sun dapples through the shallower parts of the hull. We'd suggest going early to avoid the crowds; it’s a popular spot for a reason.
