NISSHIN MARU - Sipadan

The *Nisshin Maru* isn't a dive you just "do." This is a deep, serious wreck, sitting at 54 metres, and it demands respect. We'd only suggest it for experienced technical divers with the right gas and headspace. Dropping down, the sheer scale of this WWII tanker starts to emerge from the blue – 163 metres of history, torpedoed by the USS *Grevalle* back in '44. There’s an eerie silence down there, broken only by your own breathing. The visibility is usually excellent, letting you take in the silhouette of the massive hull, encrusted now with decades of coral growth. Schools of trevally often hang off the bow, and we’ve seen marble rays cruising past the bridge structure more than once. Penetration is possible for trained divers, revealing huge cargo holds that still feel like a step back in time. It’s a completely different vibe from Sipadan's reefs, a powerful connection to history rather than just marine life. Our favourite part is lingering near the stern, imagining the final moments, before beginning the long, slow ascent. This isn't a dive for ticking boxes; it’s an exploration.
