LAGOS HURON (POSSIBLY) - Donsol & Sorsogon
Lagos Huron is one of those sites that grabs you, even if she’s just rumour. We’re talking about a motor vessel, built in Canada in 1945, and then lost somewhere near Port Tabaco in 1961. The current thinking is this 12-metre-deep wreck off Donsol is our girl. Diving here feels like a history lesson brought to life, an intimate look at a ship that played its part. The wreck itself is reasonably intact, a dark silhouette against the sandy bottom. You can peer into open hatches, imagine the crew moving through her passages. We love how the metal has softened over time, draped in sponges and soft corals, creating new homes. Large schools of snapper often hang motionless above the deck, their scales glinting, and we've spotted juvenile barracuda patrolling the darker corners. It's a gentle dive, perfect for photographers or anyone who enjoys the quiet contemplation of a wreck. The lack of strong currents makes it an ideal spot to really absorb the atmosphere.
