Malayan (Wreck) - Tubbataha Reef

The Malayan wreck is one of our Tubbataha favourites, and for good reason. It’s a fishing vessel, not a warship, which gives it a more personal, almost eerie feel sitting there at 25 metres. We love dropping down and seeing the huge schools of fusiliers swirling above the mast, so dense they sometimes dim the light. You can peer into the holds, often finding giant groupers lurking in the shadows, or follow the lines of snapper and jacks that patrol the decks. Look closely, and you’ll spot nudibranchs clinging to the superstructure and anemones with their resident clownfish making a home on the rust. It’s an intermediate dive, straightforward to navigate, but the currents here can pick up quickly, so pay attention to your guide. This site really suits divers who appreciate the blend of history and healthy reef life.
