Liloan Wreck - Visayas

The Liloan Wreck, for us, is a perfect example of how a bit of history makes a dive site sing. We’ve always been drawn to wrecks with a story, and this Japanese gunboat, sunk during World War II, definitely has one. It sits upright, largely intact, from around 10 to 25 metres. That depth range means it’s accessible to most certified divers, which we appreciate. What we love here is the way the wreck has become a home. Schools of yellowfin tuna often patrol the deeper parts, and you'll spot giant frogfish tucked into crevices. Look closely for robust ghost pipefish swaying gently in the mild current. We particularly enjoy exploring the engine room, always keeping an eye out for nudibranchs on the encrusted metal. The bow section, draped in soft corals, makes for some great photos, especially when the light filters down in the late morning. It’s not a huge wreck, but there are plenty of interesting nooks and crannies to poke around in, perfect for two dives if you take your time.
