SHIRETOKO MARU (PROBABLY) - Southern Islands
The Shiretoko Maru, or what we believe to be its remains, lies in a shallow six metres off Singapore’s Southern Islands. This site is less about grand structure and more about history. What's left of the old Japanese steamship, torpedoed in 1944, is spread out across the seabed – a jumble of twisted metal and hull plates. It’s a good spot for macro enthusiasts, with nudibranchs and small crabs making homes among the wreckage. Because it's so shallow, you get plenty of bottom time, making it suitable for newer divers looking for their first wreck experience.
