KHF 49 - Koh Lanta & Phi Phi

KHF 49 is what we call a real "armchair dive" site. With a maximum depth of just one metre, this isn't about getting wet, it's about connecting with history. This dangerous wreck, a historical relic, rests just below the surface, its shadowy form visible from a boat or even a keen eye from shore on a calm day. We love it for the sheer audacity of its presence, a stark reminder of maritime pasts laid bare. You won't be finning through schools of fish here, but you'll experience a palpable sense of the past. It’s perfect for snorkelers, freedivers who want a close-up, unhurried look, or even just keen photographers from the surface. The light plays beautifully on the hull, revealing textures that time and the sea have sculpted. While the current description notes "various" species, in our experience, you’re looking at the occasional curious damselfish, maybe some small crabs scuttling over the metal, and the fascinating algal growth that softens the wreck’s edges. It's a contemplative site, not an action-packed one. Go early in the morning for the best light and calmest conditions; the surface reflections can be stunning then.
