KISOGAWA MARU - Koh Lanta & Phi Phi

We’re calling it right now: the *Kisogawa Maru* is one of the most underrated deep wrecks in Thailand. Dropping onto her deck at 60 metres, you feel the weight of history. This Japanese steamship, torpedoed in 1943, lies perfectly upright, a shadow against the dark blue. Our favourite part has to be the huge bow, still mostly intact. You can swim down the hull, tracing the outline of portholes, feeling the cold steel through your fingertips. It’s a serious dive, absolutely, but for those with the training, it’s incredibly rewarding. The sheer scale is impressive, but it’s the quiet sense of preservation down there that really gets us. We’ve seen enormous schools of fusiliers swirling over the bridge, sometimes so dense they momentarily block the remaining light. Look closely and you’ll find smaller reef fish darting from the rusted plate gaps. Dive this one early in the day, before any thermoclines might make the deep even chillier.
