KM REEF EXPLORER - Koh Lanta & Phi Phi

The KM Reef Explorer isn’t your typical deep, dark wreck. It’s a shallow, friendly introduction to wreck diving, sitting upright in around seven metres of water. We love this site for its accessibility and the sheer volume of life that has moved in. The boat itself, a former passenger ferry, was intentionally sunk to create an artificial reef, and the plan worked beautifully. As you descend, the outline of the old ferry emerges, its hull now a tapestry of soft corals and anemones. Schools of fusiliers swirl around the superstructure, so thick they sometimes block out the sun. Look closely, and you’ll spot clownfish darting amongst the anemones on the deck, and we’ve often found lionfish tucked away in shadowy corners. For photographers, the natural light at this depth is fantastic, illuminating the vibrant colours. This site is brilliant for newer divers looking for their first wreck experience, or anyone who just wants a relaxed dive with plenty to see without going deep. We'd suggest aiming for a morning dive before the day boats get too busy.
