Koh Talak Steps - Koh Lanta & Phi Phi

Koh Talak Steps always feels like we’re dropping into a busy city street, but underwater. It’s not about huge pelagics here; it's about the intricate, smaller stuff, a place where you really need to slow down and look. We love drifting along the sloping reef, eyes peeled for the resident Nocturn Gobies. They're surprisingly bold, often posing for a moment before darting back into their holes. The real joy comes from the sheer density of the smaller fish. You’ll swim through clouds of Blue and Gold Fusiliers, so thick they almost dim the sunlight. Keep an eye out for the Flashlight Fish in the darker cracks – we've found a few peeking out during day dives, a cool surprise. It’s a fantastic spot for macro photography, especially with the Banded Blue Sprats flitting around. We’d suggest going in the late morning, after the initial rush, when the light hits the reef just right, bringing out the vibrant colours of the wrasse and damselfish. Currents can pick up, but usually, it’s a gentle drift, perfect for an unhurried exploration.
