MV SELAMA ABADI V - Koh Lanta & Phi Phi

The MV Selama Abadi V isn't for everyone. Let's get that out of the way. This isn't a colourful reef dive, and it’s certainly not a gentle drift. What it is, though, is an utterly compelling piece of history, resting upright at 35 metres. We love dropping down onto the stern, seeing the massive propeller and rudder emerge from the blue. It’s an eerie, almost reverent feeling. This site is truly a playground for wreck enthusiasts. Penetration is possible, though we always recommend proper training and equipment. The hold is dark, but sometimes schools of fusiliers swirl inside, catching the light in a spectacular way. Our favourite detail is the bridge, now heavily encrusted, with glassfish hovering like a shimmering curtain. Watch for lionfish perched on railings and giant moray eels peeking from the shadows. Conditions can be tricky, with strong currents sometimes making the descent a real workout. We’d suggest going with a guide who knows the wreck intimately and keeping a sharp eye on your dive computer. The Selama Abadi V tells a silent story, and for those who listen, it’s a powerful one.
