SELAMA ABADI - Koh Lanta & Phi Phi

Selama Abadi isn't your average Thai wreck. We’re talking about a proper motor vessel, sunk in 1990, now sitting upright on the seabed at 37 metres. It’s been down there long enough for serious growth to take hold, making the metal superstructure a fantastic home for all sorts of reef fish. You'll descend onto the main deck, where schools of yellowtail barracuda often hang motionless in the slight current, their scales flashing. Inside, the holds are dark, but if you’ve got a good torch and solid buoyancy, you can penetrate a few of the more open sections. Look for resident lionfish tucked into shadowy corners and the surprisingly large batfish that patrol the bridge area. This site really suits divers with some experience, those comfortable with deeper profiles and a keen eye for finding life in unexpected places. Our favourite part? The way the light filters through the upper sections, illuminating the sponges and soft corals that have completely encrusted the masts. It’s a little eerie, a little beautiful, and always interesting.
