U 859 - Koh Lanta & Phi Phi

The U 859, a German Type IXD2 submarine, rests upright at 23 meters and makes for a really interesting dive. She went down in 1944, torpedoed by a British submarine, and at 87.5 meters long, there’s plenty to explore. We often find the bow section most intriguing, with the torpedo tubes still visible, now home to schools of snapper and barracuda. Look closely and you’ll spot lionfish tucked into crevices and perhaps a turtle cruising overhead. It’s a solid wreck dive, suitable for advanced open water divers comfortable with deeper sites.
