Halfway Wall - Great Barrier Reef

Halfway Wall offers a proper vertical drop, which we always appreciate on the Great Barrier Reef. Too often you’re finning along gentle slopes; here, the reef plunges straight down, giving you that proper wall diving sensation. We love dropping in and letting the wall guide us. Look for big schools of blackfin chromis darting in and out of the staghorn corals, and keep an eye out for the big, sleepy rock cod tucked into ledges. Visibility here can often be excellent, pushing past 20 meters, which lets you appreciate the scale of the wall as it disappears into the blue. We've often spotted parrotfish, especially the filament-finned variety, crunching away at the coral. Our best dives here have been in the mornings, before any afternoon chop picks up. It’s a site that suits divers who enjoy a drift, letting the current do the work while they scan the wall for macro life like Ernie’s sueviota, or look out into the blue for something larger.
