Round the Bend - Great Barrier Reef

Round the Bend, what a spot. We’ve logged a few dives here, and it always delivers a solid hit of the Great Barrier Reef's classic energy. It’s not about finding some rare nudibranch, though we have seen the occasional Ernie's Sueviota lurking. This site is about the pure, unfiltered spectacle of a healthy reef. Drop in and you're immediately surrounded by schools of Bicolor Chromis, a shimmering curtain you swim right through. We love drifting along the reef edge, keeping an eye out for the big boys. Southern bluefin tuna have flashed past us more than once here, a streak of silver in the blue. Look closely into the staghorn coral formations, they’re nurseries for juvenile Bullethead Parrotfish and the darting Ambon Pullers. The soft corals here are particularly lush, swaying gently, creating a hypnotic rhythm. This is a site for those who appreciate the sheer volume of fish life and the vibrant health of a diverse coral ecosystem. Our tip? Try an early morning dive if you can arrange it. The light hitting the shallows, illuminating the Sculptured Mitten Lobsters hiding in crevices, is something else. You'll finish feeling genuinely optimistic about the reef's resilience.
