OTAMA REEF - Goat Island & Hauraki Gulf

Rocky Point is one of our favourite spots on the east side, particularly if the current is running. It's a proper drift dive, letting the water do all the work as you glide over a sloping reef that transforms into more of a sheer wall further east. We usually drop in and let the current carry us west, covering a decent stretch of reef without finning much. The reef itself is a mix of rock formations and coral patches, not quite as colourful as some of Roatán’s other sites, but it makes up for it in action. Look for schools of blue tangs and doctorfish swirling around the shallower parts, and plenty of jacks patrolling the open water. We've seen some impressive Kulkulcan cones and Mouse cones here tucked into crevices, so keep an eye out for those smaller details. Deeper down, past 15 metres, you start finding rusty gobies perched on the sponges and the occasional lionfish lurking. It’s a site that rewards a slow drift and keen observation rather than speed. This spot really suits divers who appreciate a relaxed pace and are comfortable with a bit of current.
