Blenheim Dive Centre - Kaikōura
The team at Blenheim Dive Centre feel like old mates from the moment you step through the door. They've been around forever, a proper family operation, and it shows in how they run things – straightforward, no fuss, just solid diving. We reckon they’re the go-to if you’re keen to tackle the South Island’s unique, often-chilly waters, especially around Kaikōura. They specialise in getting divers comfortable and competent in these conditions, making them a top choice for anyone looking to level up their cold-water skills or just experience something different from the tropics. We’ve always been impressed by their local knowledge. They know the Kaikōura coastline like the back of their hand, which means they can usually put you on the best spots, even when conditions are a bit tricky. Our favourite trips with them often involve the seal colonies; seeing those curious fur seals barrel past you, twisting and turning, is genuinely exhilarating. The water can be bracing, but there's a certain magic to the kelp forests and the dramatic underwater topography here. We’d suggest chatting to them about current conditions; visibility can swing quite a bit with the weather, but even on a greener day, the sheer density of marine life makes it worthwhile. They’re PADI 5 Star, so you’re in good hands for courses too, especially if you’re thinking about drysuit certs or advanced cold-water skills.
