Fusheng (Wreck) - Sandy Island

The Fusheng isn’t just some boat sunk for tourism, and that’s why we love it. This is a genuinely old freighter, driven aground in a storm back in the 1960s, and she’s been slowly coming apart ever since. Lying at 30 metres, the visibility here is usually excellent, giving you a full view of her broken bow and scattered stern section. You can swim through parts of the cargo hold, now a cavern for schooling snapper, their silver scales glinting in the shafts of light that pierce the deck plates. Keep an eye out for green morays tucked into every crevice, their heads swaying gently in the subtle current. What makes the Fusheng a standout is the way she’s been utterly colonised. Hard corals encrust the hull, and sponges bloom in vibrant purples and oranges, turning the metal into a living reef. We find our favourite moments exploring the debris field around the main sections, where the scattered plates and twisted beams create perfect hideouts for lobsters and drumfish. It's a dive that rewards slow exploration, looking for the small details rather than just the big picture. It’s perfect for intermediate divers keen to experience a wreck that feels truly integrated into the marine environment, rather than just dropped there.
