Kipcke Rock, for us, is a dive that truly reminds you you’re in Alaska. It’s a rugged spot, a rock outcrop where the wildness of the surface extends right down into the water. We’ve seen giant octopus here, always a thrill, their arms snaking out from crevices. You’ll also spot Big Skates gliding along the rocky bottom and the bizarre, spotted ratfish. Surface intervals are often marked by Common Loons and Guillemots bobbing nearby. It’s definitely a cooler water experience, so good drysuit skills are a plus, but the unique feel of the place makes it worthwhile for adventurous divers looking for something a bit different from the usual tropical scene.
