With 173+ marine species recorded in the area - including barracuda, humpback whales, orcas, sea turtles and sperm whales - Canyones, Boca Chica offers some of Bayahibe & La Romana's richest reef diving. Water ranges 27-30°C, warmest August, September, October.
The Canyones, just a short boat ride from Boca Chica, offers a relaxing dive, particularly good for those newer to the Caribbean. We dive through a series of valleys and coral formations down to about 23 meters. Keep an eye out for the usual suspects: plenty of doctorfish, busy schools of French grunts, and the occasional orangespotted filefish flitting about. While we've not always spotted the nurse sharks or turtles mentioned, there are often lobsters tucked under rocks and sometimes stingrays cruising the sandy patches, making for a pleasant, straightforward dive.
