Zingara Wreck - Sosua & Puerto Plata

The Zingara, sitting upright at around 30 metres, is our favourite wreck in the Sosua area. It's a purposefully sunk freighter, which means it’s pretty well intact and feels like a proper ship, not just a pile of rubble. We love slipping into the cargo holds, where the light shafts cut through the water, illuminating schools of silversides so thick they shimmer like liquid metal. Keep an eye out for green moray eels tucked into crevices, their heads poking out with that characteristic grumpy stare. The bridge area offers great swim-throughs, and you can still make out the ship’s controls. It's not a dive for absolute beginners, as that depth means your bottom time is limited, and currents can pick up, but it’s fantastic for advanced divers looking for a good exploration. Best dived mid-morning, before the crowds, when the light really plays nicely on the decks.
