CHRISTENA - St. Kitts
The Christena ferry sits upright in 22 metres, a somber reminder of a tragic day in 1970. We find the whole experience incredibly poignant; it’s not just a dive, it’s a dive into history. The wooden superstructure is long gone, eaten away by time and ocean, but the steel hull remains remarkably intact, giving it a ghost-like quality. Our favourite part is navigating the open cargo holds, where schools of glassy sweepers often pulse and swirl, reflecting the ambient light. Look closely and you’ll spot resident lobsters tucked into shadowy crevices, and we’ve often seen nurse sharks cruising lazily around the perimeter. The Christena feels substantial, a decent-sized wreck to explore, and the depth keeps it comfortable for most advanced open water divers. Currents are generally mild here, making for a relaxed dive where you can really take your time to appreciate the wreck's scale and the life it now supports. It’s a compelling site, definitely one for wreck enthusiasts who appreciate a story with their dive.
