With 384+ marine species recorded in the area - including barracuda, dolphins, eagle rays, humpback whales and nurse sharks - RIVER TAW offers some of St. Kitts's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 27-30°C, warmest August, September, October.
The River Taw, a dredger that went down in 1981, sits upright on a sandy bottom at 11 metres. It’s a good, shallow dive, easy enough for newer wreck divers to get a feel for penetration without too much commitment. We usually find it’s home to schooling grunts and snapper, often with the odd nurse shark tucked away under a plating. Inside, the light comes through various holes, illuminating sections of the interior, and you can swim through the main hold where light fixtures still cling to the ceiling. It’s not a dramatic wreck, but it’s a solid, dependable dive with a good sense of history.
