COPPEDGE NO.4 - Providenciales

Coppedge No.4. It’s a shallow one, barely tickling the surface, but don’t let that fool you. This isn’t a deep wreck for technical divers. This is a sun-drenched, easy dive, perfect for photographers or anyone wanting to spend a solid hour poking around a piece of history. We love that it’s right there, the remains of an old barge, practically begging you to explore its nooks and crannies. The barge went down back in ‘69, a casualty of a tow near Great Inagua, and now it rests in a meter of water near Doghead Point. You’ll find schools of juvenile snapper flitting between the rusted beams, and sometimes a nurse shark will be napping under a larger section of plating. The light here is incredible, filtering through the surface and illuminating every crevice. Our favorite time to go is mid-morning, after the first boats have left, when the sun hits the wreck just right, making the water shimmer. It’s a gentle introduction to wreck diving, a chance to really soak in the atmosphere without battling depth or current.
