Don Quickset - Roatán

Iron Bound sits on Roatán’s northeast side, a bit of a trek from the main dive shops, usually a 45-minute boat ride. But we think it’s worth the journey. The wall here drops to about 19 meters, then opens up to these wide, inviting stretches of sand. We’ve had some memorable encounters here, often spotting barracudas lurking in the blue as we descend. It’s a site that rewards a slower pace. The swim-throughs and overhangs are our favourite part; light filters in, creating this beautiful, dappled effect. Keep an eye on the sand flats for stingrays-they often settle there, almost camouflaged. Our pick for a good time to dive it is late morning, after the initial rush to the closer sites, when the light is just right for exploring the wall's contours. You'll often see schools of horse-eye jacks hanging out near the wall, and we’ve even had a few fleeting whale shark sightings here, though they’re never a guarantee. It's a great spot for anyone who enjoys a bit of varied topography and taking their time to spot the smaller stuff like gobies and clingfish.
