The Bight - Roatán

Winter Wall is one of those places where we sometimes forget to look up because the wall itself is so engrossing. You drop onto a shallow reef top, maybe 8 metres down, covered in robust hard and soft corals. It's pretty, but the real show starts when you drift over the edge. From about 16 metres, the "Rose Wall" takes over, a beautiful, dense growth of pink and purple stony corals that just blankets the rock. It’s not about finding one big thing here, it’s the sheer volume and colour of the coral itself, like a meticulously sculpted garden. We love watching the little Arc-eye Hawkfish perched amongst the branches and the Jansen's wrasse flitting past. Visibility averages a comfortable 21 metres, so you can really appreciate the scale. Keep an eye out for a sleepy white tip reef shark on the sand below, around 25 metres. It’s a gentle drift, perfect for anyone who loves a good coral dive but still wants that chance encounter with a passing pelagic.
