Seal Rock - Corn Islands

Penfield Reef isn't a tropical postcard. Let's get that out of the way. This is classic New England diving, and we absolutely love it for its rugged charm and surprising residents. You're not coming here for coral, but for the thrill of exploring a rocky, kelp-draped environment that feels genuinely wild. We've spent more than a few hours finning around Penfield, usually at slack tide to avoid fighting the surge. Visibility can swing wildly; one day it's 10 metres of milky green, the next you're squinting through a thick pea soup. But when it's good, it's really good. Keep an eye peeled for the common seals, often lounging on the rocks or zipping past, their curiosity often getting the better of them. We've also had fantastic encounters with long-armed hermit crabs scuttling over the rocks and schools of butterfish darting through the kelp. It’s a site that rewards patience and a keen eye for macro life amongst the algae. This site is perfect for cold-water divers who appreciate unique marine life and the quiet challenge of a temperate dive. If you're looking for a different kind of beauty, Penfield delivers a truly authentic New England underwater experience.
