Turtle Hole - Corn Islands

Norman's Woe, off the coast of Massachusetts, isn't your typical coral wonderland, and that's precisely why we love it. This is cold-water diving at its finest, a rugged rock reef that feels genuinely wild. We've spent many an hour here exploring the cracks and crevices, spotting hefty wolf-fish peering out, their broad heads and teeth unmistakable. Keep an eye out for the smaller stuff too, like the psychedelic star ascidians clinging to the rocks – they add a surprising splash of colour to the muted palette. Visibility can be a real toss-up; on a good day, it’s a crisp 10-15 metres, but slack tide is usually your best bet for clarity and milder currents. We've found the early morning dives here often yield sightings of harbour porpoises cruising by the surface. It’s a site for divers who appreciate the subtle beauty of a temperate ecosystem, where the thrill comes from spotting a well-camouflaged halibut or a darting snake blenny rather than fields of brightly coloured corals. This isn't for the faint of heart or those expecting Caribbean warmth, but for divers who embrace the chill and the unique marine life of New England, Norman's Woe delivers a truly satisfying experience.
