Le Nordby - Bora Bora

Diving Le Nordby, you’re not just looking at a sunken ship; you’re dropping into a piece of Bora Bora’s history. This World War II cargo ship, run aground and later scuttled, lies broken but still intriguing. We love tracing the deck, imagining the crew, and seeing how the ocean has repurposed it. It’s not a massive wreck, but the way light filters through the structure on a sunny day gives it a real moody charm. What makes Le Nordby special for us isn't just the history, it’s the residents. Look for the undulated moray eels peeking from every nook, their patterned skin almost blending with the corroded metal. Schools of scarlet and pink squirrelfish dart in and out of the hold, their silver scales flashing. We always spot a few small-eyed squirrelfish tucked away in the darker corners, keeping to themselves. Keep an eye out for Argus grouper, big and curious, often hanging around the more intact sections. It's a dive that rewards slow exploration, letting you soak in the atmosphere. The resident black surgeonfish seem to own the place. This site is great for divers who appreciate the story behind a wreck and enjoy seeing how life reclaims what’s been lost, rather than just chasing big pelagics.
