Yap Pacific Dive Resort - Yap
When we talk about Yap, we’re usually talking about mantas. But the house reef at Yap Pacific Dive Resort? It’s our pick for an easy, no-fuss dive that consistently delivers surprises. Forget big animals for a moment; this site is all about the little things, the stuff you might swim right past if you’re not looking closely. We love dropping in just before sunset, as the light starts to soften. The visibility isn't always phenomenal here, maybe 10-15 metres on an average day, but that just forces you to slow down. Keep your eyes peeled for blennies, especially the Flaming Blennies, doing their jerky dances from coral heads. You’ll find cowries inching across the rocks, and those tiny Shorthead Anchovies forming shimmering bait balls in the shallows. It’s a macro playground, plain and simple. We’ve spent entire dives just in one small patch, spotting Blood-stained frog shells and the elusive Cleaner Mimic wrasse. It’s a gentle slope, maybe 15 metres at its deepest, so it’s ideal for a long, relaxed second dive of the day, or even a night dive. Bring a good torch and a macro lens; you won’t regret it.
