Zero plane - Yap

The Zero plane wreck in Yap is more than just a piece of history on the seabed; it's a living canvas. We love this site because it feels like diving into a museum exhibit that’s been reclaimed by nature. The plane itself, remarkably intact, lies in shallow water, making it perfect for longer bottom times and really soaking in the details. You can still make out the cockpit, the wing structure, even a propeller blade, now encrusted with delicate staghorn corals and home to darting rainbowfish. Around the wreck, we often spot blennies peering out from crevices and gobies sharing burrows with snapping shrimp. Look closely for seahorses clinging to the coral growth on the fuselage. It's not a deep dive, usually around 15 meters, so you get fantastic natural light playing over the metal. For photographers, the ambient light and the contrast of the dark metal against the colourful fish are a dream. We always suggest going in the late morning when the sun is high for the best visibility and light penetration on the wreck. It’s a gentle, reflective dive, less about big pelagics and more about the quiet beauty of an artificial reef.
