VONU (PROBABLY) - Iron Bottom Sound

VONU (PROBABLY) in Iron Bottom Sound isn't about deep exploration. It's about history, right there at 10 metres, practically begging you to take a closer look. This motor vessel is a gorgeous jumble of metal, not a perfectly intact ship, but that’s exactly why we love it. The wreck itself isn't huge, but the way light plays through the skeletal remains of the superstructure is captivating, especially on a sunny afternoon. You’ll find schools of fusiliers darting through the openings, their silver scales flashing, and parrotfish grazing on the scattered corals that have taken hold. We’ve spotted moray eels peeking from crevices more times than we can count. For photographers, the ambient light makes for easy shooting, and the wreck offers plenty of interesting angles. It's a relaxed dive, perfect for extending your bottom time and soaking in the atmosphere, suitable for anyone comfortable with a gentle current. We’d suggest going a bit later in the day, when the sun is lower, for that extra dramatic light.
