Deos Sensuido - Izu Peninsula

The team at Deos Sensuido are, for our money, some of the best in Izu. We love their relaxed approach, which still manages to feel incredibly professional. It’s the kind of place you walk into and immediately feel like you’re part of the family, even if your Japanese is limited to ‘Konnichiwa.’ They specialise in guiding you through the often-chilly, nutrient-rich waters of the Izu Peninsula, focusing on really showcasing the macro life that thrives here. If you’re a photographer, particularly one who enjoys nudibranchs or small crabs tucked into crevices, this is your spot. We’ve spent many a morning with them, descending into the kelp forests, spotting everything from the vivid red *Flabellina* nudibranchs to the perfectly camouflaged scorpionfish. They know the sites intimately, often pointing out critters we’d have swam right past, like a tiny blenny peeking from its shell. Our favourite practical tip from them is to always layer up, even in summer. The thermoclines here can be brutal, dropping a good five degrees in just a few metres. They’re PADI 5-Star, so whether you’re looking to get certified or just want some guided dives, they’ve got you covered. Plus, the post-dive ramen they recommend nearby is legendary.
