They’re based in the Izu Peninsula, an area we return to again and again for its surprising variety. They’re a 5-Star PADI centre for a reason, meaning they really nail the fundamentals and build confident divers. We’ve had some cracking dives with them, exploring the cooler waters that bring in some unique critters. Think giant spider crabs lumbering across the volcanic rock, or the odd nudibranch species we don’t see anywhere else. Our favourite days start early, hitting the sites before the weekend crowds, especially around spring when the water is still crisp but the visibility often pushes past 20 metres. If you’re comfortable with cooler temps and want to dive somewhere a bit different, away from the tropical clichés, Frontier Diving School is a top pick. They’re excellent for getting those advanced skills dialled in, or simply for guided dives with instructors who genuinely know their local waters.
