The team at TOKYO KOKUSAI SENSUI CLUB are our go-to for diving the Izu Peninsula. Seriously, these folks know their stuff. Based in Izu, they have direct access to a whole network of dive sites that can be a bit tricky to navigate without local knowledge. We love that they really focus on smaller groups, which means more bottom time and less waiting around. If you’re looking to get your PADI certification in Japan, or simply want to explore Izu's surprising underwater landscapes without the fuss, this is where we’d send you. Izu diving, particularly with this crew, often means volcanic rock formations draped in colourful soft corals. Think dramatic swim-throughs where schools of glassfish shimmer like moving curtains. Our favourite dives with them usually involve a short boat ride to places like Futo or Yawatano, where the current can bring in pelagics, or you can spend an hour spotting nudibranchs and frogfish tucked into crevices. Visibility can vary, especially after heavy rain, but on a good day, it's a solid 15-20 metres, and the water temperature in summer is surprisingly comfortable for Japan, often hitting 25°C. They’re PADI 5 Star, so expect professional operations and well-maintained rental gear, though we always recommend bringing your own mask and fins if you can. Ask them about the night dives; the bioluminescence can be incredible.
