Shiru Higashi

Shiru Higashi, over in the Keramas, is one of those sites we always try to hit when we're in the area. It’s a real brain cooler, just a gentle drift along a slope covered in incredible hard coral formations. We’re talking massive colonies of staghorn, brain, and honeycomb corals, all stacked up and creating these natural canyons and swim-throughs. Sunlight filters down, making the whole place glow. It’s not about big pelagics here; it's about the sheer density and health of the reef itself. Look closely, and you'll spot blacklined filefish picking at polyps, and usually a few green turtles grazing lazily. We particularly love the shallower sections, around 10 to 15 metres, where the light really plays with the corals. For photographers, mornings are magic, before too many boats arrive. Conditions are usually pretty mellow, making it a perfect spot for divers who want to take their time and really soak in a thriving reef.
