Whale Shark Point - Okinawa Main Island

Look, if you're coming to Okinawa specifically to tick whale sharks off your list, this is where you do it. Whale Shark Point is less a natural reef dive and more an open-water encounter with captive-bred whale sharks. They’re kept in a net at 17 metres, just off the coast, and you descend into the enclosure with them. It’s an interesting experience for new divers or those who want a guaranteed close-up. Visibility inside the net is usually pretty good, and you get to spend a decent amount of time just watching these massive creatures glide by. We'd suggest pairing it with a proper reef dive afterwards to get a feel for Okinawa's natural underwater environment.
