Baa Atoll Diving: Hanifaru Bay Adventures - Baa Atoll

Hanifaru Bay in Baa Atoll is one of those places you hear whispers about. During the southwest monsoon, roughly May to November, the bay funnels plankton, creating a feeding frenzy that draws aggregations of manta rays and, often, whale sharks. It’s a snorkeling-only site, strictly enforced, but being amidst dozens, sometimes hundreds, of feeding mantas is an experience in itself. The sheer volume of these animals is genuinely impressive. We'd suggest going in the shoulder months of the monsoon for slightly fewer crowds, perhaps late May or early November.
