Oceanix Dive @ Kanifushi - Baa Atoll
The team at Oceanix Dive @ Kanifushi are our go-to for diving in Baa Atoll, especially if you’re staying on the island. They’re a PADI 5 Star outfit, which means solid standards, and we’ve always found their instructors to be really patient, great for newer divers or anyone looking to refresh skills. What we love most is their approach to the day’s diving; it’s relaxed, never rushed, and they’re genuinely keen to get you on the best sites given the conditions. We’ve had some cracking dives with them, particularly around Dharavandhoo Thila – just remember to ask for it. That thila can get a bit of current ripping through, but that’s when the action starts. We’re talking grey reef sharks cruising by, eagle rays gliding overhead, and schools of blue-striped snappers so dense you can barely see through them. If you hit it right, especially on an incoming tide in the morning, the visibility is usually excellent, easily 25 meters, and the light filtering down is just something else. Our favourite memory is just hanging out mid-water, watching the fusiliers dart and swirl, a massive trevally occasionally bursting through the school. They’re also brilliant at finding the quieter spots when the bigger sites get busy, often slipping you onto an outer reef wall where it’s just you and the reef sharks. Just a heads up, the boat rides can be a bit bumpy depending on the season, so pack some seasickness tablets if you're prone.
