Amphitheater - Bazaruto Archipelago

Amphitheater, near the famous Marble Arch, is one of our favourite spots for a relaxed morning dive. It’s a gentle introduction to Bazaruto, maxing out at 18m, making it ideal for shaking off any travel rust or for those newer to diving before tackling deeper sites. What we really love about Amphitheater is how the light plays on the sand patches, making everything feel open and bright. You’ll find a sandy basin rimmed by reef, creating a natural stage for the reef fish. We’ve had some great encounters with big schools of scad here, swirling in the blue, and the Blotched Fantail Rays often settle in the sand, sometimes almost disappearing until you’re right on top of them. Keep an eye out for Tawny nurse sharks tucked under ledges; they’re pretty chill. For macro lovers, there’s plenty to keep you busy amongst the corals: we’ve spotted Spitlure Frogfish hiding in plain sight and the occasional Blenny peeking out. Visibility averages 16m, which is usually more than enough to appreciate the coral colours and the activity across the sand. It’s a genuinely pretty dive, especially when the sun is high.
