Clownfish - Bazaruto Archipelago

Greenstone Point, tucked just inside the mouth of Milford Sound, is a proper Fiordland wall dive. It’s dark, it’s dramatic, and it’s always cold, but that’s precisely why we love it. Drop down, and you’re immediately enveloped by the gloom, the freshwater layer above sucking out the light. Below 10 metres, though, it’s a revelation. The walls are painted in layers: golden zoanthids forming thick carpets, deep red corals tucked into crevices, and those iconic Fiordland black coral trees reaching out into the inky water. We’ve found huge red rock lobsters here, tucked deep in rocky overhangs, and the butterfly perch flit about in dense schools. Keep an eye out for curious triplefins, particularly the oblique-swimming variety, darting between the branches of black coral. We’d suggest a good dive light, even on a sunny day; it really makes the colours pop. This is a site for divers who appreciate the unique beauty of cold water, the kind of place where you feel truly remote. If you're keen on technical profiles, the wall drops to 90m, but plenty of magic happens well within recreational limits.
