Giants Castle - Bazaruto Archipelago

Cuttlefish Alley in Langebaan is one of our absolute favourite shallow dives, especially when we’re after something a bit quirky. It’s a boat dive, just off the main beach, and you’ll want to time it for slack tide. When the current drops, the visibility, which averages a respectable 6m, really opens up. The star of the show here, no surprise, is the cuttlefish. We’ve spent whole dives just watching them flash colours and textures, completely mesmerised. But look closer, and you’ll find plenty more tucked into the kelp and among the rocks. Think big crayfish eyeing you from crevices, stompneus darting past, and those strange, almost prehistoric-looking jutjaw. The kelp itself is a beautiful, swaying forest, creating dappled light effects we just love. It’s a gentle dive, maxing out at 14m, perfect for an easy afternoon or when you want to focus on macro life and spend some real time observing. We’d suggest bringing a good torch to peer into the darker corners; you never know what’s hiding.
