Plongée Australe - Saint-Gilles & West Coast

Plongée Australe is one of those sites where you can just relax and let the current do some of the work. We love drifting past the rocky outcrops here, keeping an eye out for the big schools of blue and gold fusiliers that often shimmer in the blue. Look closely at the rocks and you’ll spot longnose hawkfish perched, almost camouflaged, waiting for an opportune moment. This site is brilliant for spotting a common eagle ray gliding by, or even a giant long-finned eel snaking out of a crevice. It’s generally a pretty chill dive, suiting anyone comfortable with a gentle drift. Our favourite time to hit it is mid-morning, just as the light really starts to filter down, making the water sparkle. Keep an eye on your depth though, as some of the deeper sections can sometimes surprise you if you’re not paying attention. We’ve found the best visibility tends to be after a few days of calm seas.
