Dredger Wreck - Inner Islands

The Dredger Wreck, just off Mahé, is one of our favourite spots for a relaxed wreck dive. What it lacks in specific historical drama, it more than makes up for in atmosphere and resident fish. We usually drop onto the sand at around 20 metres, then follow the rope down to the top of the wreck itself. It’s pretty broken up now, a scattering of large metal plates and beams, but that just means there are more nooks and crannies for the fish. Visibility here is often a pleasant 15-20 metres, giving you time to appreciate the schools of yellowfin goatfish that hang around the deeper sections. Look closely under the plates and you’ll often find white-eyed morays peeking out, sometimes with an attendant cleaner shrimp. We love watching the blue-spotted rays glide over the sandy patches between the wreck pieces. It’s a comfortable dive, usually with mild currents, making it a great option for newer wreck divers or anyone who just wants to enjoy a peaceful exploration without the pressure of a deeper, intact structure. Best enjoyed mid-morning before any surface chop picks up.
